We believe God is calling us to be a WARM congregation: a people who embrace one another in unconditional love, a people who embrace those in need with the care they desperately seek, a people who embrace all those we meet so that all may know God's deep and abiding love for them.  W.A.R.M: Worship the Lord through the Appeal of the church to Reach everyone and Minister to their needs.

Mocha on the Mount

Notes on Mocha on the Mount

Summary of Session One:

We explored the meanings of "righteousness" and "kingdom of heaven" by comparing Biblical translations including the NET (included in the book) and The Message.

We found that righteousness had a deeper meaning than just obeying the rules. It also includes:

  • Good appetite for God
  • Commitment to God
  • Right living
  • "Not preoccupied with getting so you can respond to God's giving", (The Message)

We found that "the Kingdom of Heaven" does not mean the usual simplistic long term goal of "going to heaven", but that it means being part of God here and now. It is an active concept and:

  • Being part of the Kingdom of God means to be at peace with God NOW
  • The Kingdom of heaven is not a long term goal but an immediate condition
  • Don't wait for heaven, be at one with God now
  • Being driven deeper into God's world
  • "Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions" (The Message)
