STEPHEN MINISTRY TRAINING BEGINS
- An exciting adventure in learning and doing ministry began in January. Our Stephen Ministry trainees have begun the task of studying, discussing, experiencing and trying out the skills involved in sharing God’s love and compassion with those who especially need these gifts. In February they will be studying:
- Distinctively Christian Caring: Discovering ways of using resources such as prayer and Scripture as tools in caring ministry.
- Process versus Results in Caregiving: Learning the difference between their role as caregivers and God’s role as Curegiver.
- Assertiveness-Relating Gently and Firmly: Finding the difference between passive, assertive and aggressive behavior and gaining skills that will help relating with others.
- Maintaining Boundaries in Caregiving: Learning how to guard against being manipulated and how to recognize their own tendencies to foster dependency by doing too much.
- Crisis Theory and Practice--Danger versus Opportunity: Studying exactly what happens when a person goes through a crisis and how caring Christian ministry can help turn a potential danger into an opportunity for growth.

PRODUCTS OF THE MONTH
- Manna House is designed to serve individual males who have been chronically homeless and who may have psychological issues and/or substance abuse problems. They are not a detox facility and do require a definite period of stability before admittance. They attempt to have 80% of their clients come from either an inpatient facility or a 28-day program. The other 20% come from emergency shelters. The Manna House is attempting to be a safety net for those persons whom society has deemed worthless or expendable. At the present time, they house 19 males for a maximum of 2 years. They have an assessment and training program to help the clients become employed. One of the pressing needs is to find used computers for training. If you receive a computer for Christmas and would like to donate your old one to Manna House, contact Valerie Brown at Manna House 423-434-9310 or her cell 423-773-8221. You would be eligible for a tax deduction.
